The Ninth Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IAAI-97) was collocated with AAAI-97, and held July 27–28, 1997, at the convention center in Providence, Rhode Island
The Ninth Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence highlighted successful applications of AI technology; explored issues, methods, and lessons learned in the development and deployment of AI applications; and promoted an interchange of ideas between basic and applied AI.
IAAI-97 consisted of papers in two tracks—(1) deployed application case studies and (2) emerging applications, technology, and issues—supplemented by invited talks and panel discussions. The deployed application track was equivalent to previous IAAI conferences. The emerging areas track was added to "bridge the gap" between AI research and AI applications development by informing AI researchers about the utility of various techniques for and constraints imposed by application domains and AI application developers about tools, techniques, or methods that will enable new and more powerful applications.
